High School Dance Chaperones

Poetry
by John Delonas

The old move easy, effortlessly,
Wriggling to the Lombardo track
Of the fox-trot-box-step,
While the young maidens
Self- consciously
Warp their bored
Bodies to a dance,
As if ashamed.
How do the sinless
Know shame?
While the old sinners
Arson burns with carnal sacrifice:
Signal flares to fantasy,
Undreamed by their spouses.
Anytime, anytime,
The Cains can make
The Ablest gifts.
